Where EcoHaven Homes Builds

We are based in West Kelowna and build across five Okanagan communities. Each one has its own building authority and its own rules about what can go on your lot, so each one gets its own page.

The rules are not the same from one community to the next

Four of the five communities we build in sit in the Regional District of Central Okanagan. Summerland does not, it is in the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen. Each municipality writes its own zoning bylaw on top of the BC Building Code and the provincial small-scale multi-unit housing legislation, and the differences are not cosmetic.

West Kelowna does not permit rooftop decks on a carriage house. Kelowna caps a secondary suite at 90 m² or 40 percent of the house, whichever is smaller, and requires the suite to be registered. Lake Country ties what you can build to your specific zone, and will not let the suite be sold separately. Peachland does not allow a garden suite to be used as a short-term rental. Summerland will not permit a carriage house at all on land inside the Agricultural Land Reserve.

Any one of those can turn a design into a redraw. Pick your community below for the version that applies to you.

Not on the list?

These are the communities we work in regularly, not a hard boundary. If you are somewhere else in the Okanagan, call and ask. We will tell you honestly whether we are the right build for your location.
